On November 2nd, the first phase of the San'ao Nuclear Power Interconnection Project in Wenzhou, Zhejiang was completed and put into operation, marking the official connection of the first domestically funded nuclear power plant to the State Grid.
The San'ao Nuclear Power Plant is located in Cangnan County, Wenzhou City. It is a national key energy project and the first civilian nuclear power project in China to be invested by private capital. The project plans to construct six 1.2 million kilowatt "Hualong One" nuclear power units, with a total installed capacity of 7.2 million kilowatts, planned in three phases at once.
The San'ao Nuclear Power Phase I Interconnection Project, which is put into operation this time, is a power transmission channel to ensure the grid connection of two units in the San'ao Nuclear Power Phase I project. It is one of the top ten key projects for the construction of the "Green and Stable" power grid in Zhejiang Province in 2024. The total investment of the project is about 1.5 billion yuan, including three sub projects: the San'ao Nuclear Power Nanyan 500 kV Line Project, the Ruian Nanyan 500 kV Line Connection Project, and the Ouhai Nanyan 500 kV Line Connection Project. 300 new iron towers and 125.5 kilometers of double circuit lines will be built.

Wenzhou, where the San'ao Nuclear Power Plant project is located, has abundant clean energy resources such as wind and solar power. In recent years, Wenzhou has proposed to build a complete industry chain of nuclear, wind, solar, water, hydrogen storage, and clean energy storage, forming a new energy base with a capacity of tens of millions of kilowatts, and promoting Wenzhou's transformation from an electricity input to a power output location. With the completion of the first phase of the San'ao Nuclear Power Interconnection Project and the promotion of a number of important power grid projects such as the Rui'an 500 kV transmission and transformation project, large-scale coastal power sources will continue to be integrated into the power grid, injecting green development momentum into the low-carbon transformation of energy in Wenzhou and even Zhejiang, "said Zhang Jinqiang, Director of the Construction Management Department of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Construction Department.
It is reported that after the commissioning of the San'ao Nuclear Power Plant, it will provide approximately 54 billion kilowatt hours of clean energy annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 44 million tons. Among them, Unit 1 and Unit 2 of the first phase project are planned to be put into operation in 2025. The third and fourth units of the second phase project were approved by the State Council in August this year, further increasing the proportion of private enterprise participation, expanding the scope of private investment in infrastructure construction, and driving the development of the private economy.
