The first phase of the world's highest altitude photovoltaic project, Huaneng Nagu Photovoltaic Power Station, was connected to the grid for power generation in Diqing, Yunnan on the 24th. The highest altitude where the power station is located exceeds 5240 meters.

The Huaneng Nagu Photovoltaic Power Station is an important construction project of the Huaneng Lancang River Integrated Clean Energy Base. The first phase of the project covers an area of 1900 acres, with approximately 177 standard football fields. 32 photovoltaic array areas will be built at altitudes of 4800 to 5300 meters, and about 200000 double-sided double glass photovoltaic modules will be installed, with a total installed capacity of 100000 kilowatts.
After the completion of the first phase project, the annual average power generation will be 158 million kilowatt hours, which can save 47400 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 124000 tons. It is reported that the construction team has overcome multiple technical challenges such as construction in high-altitude swamps, construction in areas with glacial till and gravel, and improving the thermal efficiency of photovoltaic panels in heavy ice conditions.
