Recently, on the vast expanse of land on the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, the first section of the CGN Hotan Cele 800,000-kilowatt photovoltaic desert control project, undertaken by Xinjiang Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., successfully achieved full-capacity grid connection and power generation, officially opening a new chapter in clean power transmission, desert ecological management, and local development empowerment.

As the second large-scale photovoltaic desert control project to be completed and connected to the grid in the Hotan region, this "desert energy oasis," with a total investment of approximately 2.098 billion yuan and covering an area of about 20,600 mu, has achieved a "two-way synergy" between ecological governance and clean energy development in the barren desert through the innovative "photovoltaic + desert control" model. Located approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Cele County, the project has a total installed capacity of 800,000 kilowatts and is a key autonomous region-level new energy project integrating clean energy power generation, desertification control, and ecological restoration. The construction scope covers a full range of processes, including leveling of the photovoltaic field, layout of 63 photovoltaic arrays, installation of 378,672 photovoltaic modules, foundation construction for support structures, laying of 35 kV collection lines, construction of supporting booster stations, and electrical commissioning.
During the construction process, this project not only serves as an important measure to promote energy structure transformation and support rural revitalization in Cele County, but has also effectively increased local residents' incomes and stimulated the development of related industrial chains. After the project goes into operation, it is expected to provide approximately 1.53 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, effectively optimizing the energy supply structure of the southern Xinjiang region and providing stable, reliable green support for high-quality local economic and social development.

In terms of ecological benefits, the project innovatively combines large-scale photovoltaic power generation with desertification control. The photovoltaic panel arrays effectively reduce surface wind speed and decrease soil moisture evaporation, creating favorable conditions for planting drought-tolerant vegetation beneath and between the panels, and gradually restoring the sandy ecological environment. It is estimated that the project can save approximately 460,000 tons of standard coal annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.25 million tons per year, providing a replicable and scalable practical pathway for ecological protection and restoration in arid and semi-arid regions.
The successful grid connection of the CGN Hotan Cele Photovoltaic Desert Control Project is not only a significant achievement in Xinjiang's accelerated construction of a national large-scale clean energy base, but also a vivid practice of Xinjiang Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. in pursuing green development concepts and deepening its presence in the new energy sector. Moreover, it marks an important milestone in promoting energy transition, combating desertification, and achieving green, high-quality development in southern Xinjiang. Looking ahead, Xinjiang Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. will continue to stay true to its original aspirations, bravely shoulder its missions, and provide a steady stream of green momentum for the optimization of Xinjiang's energy structure, the improvement of its ecological environment, and its economic and social development through more high-quality new energy projects.
