Recently, the 174,000-cubic-meter large-scale LNG carrier constructed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), was successfully delivered. This achievement marks a new milestone in China's LNG shipbuilding and the localization process of core supporting equipment.

This vessel is the first large-scale LNG carrier in China to achieve full-spectrum localization of ultra-low-temperature valves for its cargo containment system. LNG carriers are often referred to as "super freezers" at sea, operating under extremely harsh conditions. The cryogenic valves on board must withstand prolonged exposure to temperatures as low as minus 162°C while meeting stringent technical requirements such as high airtightness, strong corrosion resistance, and high safety and stability. These valves are core components with exceptionally high technical barriers in the marine equipment sector. Previously, the core cryogenic valves for LNG carriers relied heavily on imports, which had become a key bottleneck restricting the independent development of China's LNG shipping industry chain.
With the full localization of all types of cryogenic valves used in the cargo containment system of this vessel, China has now completely mastered all critical processes across the entire value chain—including special material R&D, product structural design, manufacturing technology, complete valve assembly, and system integration. This achievement has successfully established a fully independent industrial chain for large-scale LNG carriers, covering everything from basic materials and core components to final vessel construction. It also significantly enhances China's level of independent control over high-end marine equipment and lays a solid foundation for the large-scale, high-quality development of the domestic LNG shipping industry.

From the perspective of industry development, the large-scale implementation of domestically produced ultra-low-temperature valves on large LNG carriers carries profound demonstration and promotion significance for China's valve industry. On the one hand, ultra-low-temperature valves for LNG carriers fall into the category of high-end special valves. The batch application of domestically produced valves on actual vessels has fully validated their performance, reliability, and manufacturing capabilities under extreme operating conditions, marking that China's design and manufacturing technology for ultra-low-temperature valves has entered the ranks of the world's leading level, breaking the monopoly of overseas brands in the high-end marine cryogenic valve sector.
On the other hand, as demand continues to rise for special valves featuring ultra-low-temperature resistance, high pressure handling, and high reliability in industries such as LNG, offshore engineering, and oil & gas storage and transportation, the breakthrough in the marine LNG supporting market will in turn drive domestic valve companies to continuously iterate and upgrade core technologies in areas such as special material development, precision machining, low-temperature sealing, and operating condition adaptability.
Furthermore, the mature experience gained from the localization of marine LNG valves can also be extended to related fields such as onshore LNG terminals, liquefaction plants, and long-distance pipeline networks, helping domestic valve companies expand into high-end application markets, driving the entire valve industry's transformation toward high precision, specialization, and systematization, and accelerating the overall progress of China's high-end equipment supporting industry toward self-reliance and greater technological strength.
