With the continuous advancement of energy projects in the Middle East, global high-end valve manufacturing companies are once again facing important market opportunities. Recently, Saudi Aramco officially announced that its Jafurah Gas Field development project in Eastern Province has entered the second phase (Phase II) of key equipment procurement. As one of the largest unconventional natural gas development projects in the Middle East, the equipment procurement scale and technical requirements of this project have attracted widespread attention in the global energy engineering field.

1、 $15 billion investment drives large-scale equipment procurement
According to public information, the expected total investment for the Jafurah shale gas field phase II project is over 15 billion US dollars, and the funds will mainly be used for the construction of gas field development infrastructure, including key projects such as wellhead systems, natural gas processing facilities, and pipeline networks.
Among numerous equipment procurement projects, high-pressure sulfur resistant valves have become an important component of this round of bidding. This bidding is expected to purchase thousands of special valves, covering key products such as ball valves, gate valves, and wellhead safety valves. These valves will be applied in gas well extraction, transportation, and processing systems, and are important equipment to ensure the safe and stable operation of gas fields.
2、 Extreme working conditions demand higher requirements for valve technology
The Jafurah gas field is a typical unconventional shale gas resource, with complex geological conditions that place extremely high demands on equipment reliability. The project design parameters indicate that the relevant valves need to operate stably in extreme high-pressure environments up to approximately 15000 psi, while also enduring the corrosion effects of high sulfur natural gas for a long time.
In this context, valve materials must have excellent resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and corrosion. According to the bidding technical specifications, all products participating in the bidding must pass ISO 15848-1 low leakage certification and use verified duplex stainless steel or nickel based alloy materials to ensure sealing reliability in high temperature, high pressure, and sulfur-containing environments.
In addition, wellhead safety valves and critical control valves also need to have high reliability and long-term stable operation capabilities to reduce maintenance requirements under complex working conditions.
3、 Chinese enterprises engage in fierce competition with European and American manufacturers
Due to the huge scale and high technical threshold of the project, this bidding has attracted multiple international valve manufacturers from China, the United States, and Europe to participate in the bidding. Currently, multiple companies have entered the final shortlist stage.
Industry analysis believes that in recent years, Chinese valve companies have made significant technological breakthroughs in the fields of ultra deep well and high-pressure valve materials, especially in the continuous improvement of competitiveness in high-end alloy material applications and structural design. With technological progress and cost advantages, Chinese companies are expected to gain about 40% of the order share in this procurement, gradually breaking the long-term advantage of European and American companies in the high-end oil and gas valve market.
This trend also reflects the changing global valve industry landscape, with high-end manufacturing capabilities gradually expanding to more countries and regions.
4、 The significance of the project for the energy and valve industries
The Jafurah shale gas field is one of the important projects for Saudi Arabia to promote energy structure transformation. After the completion of the project, it will significantly increase the country's natural gas production, reduce the dependence of domestic power generation on oil, and provide stable gas sources for the chemical industry, thereby supporting its national development strategy.
For the valve manufacturing industry, this project not only means a huge equipment order, but also represents a further improvement in technical standards. Faced with high pressure, high corrosion, and low leakage requirements, valve enterprises need to continuously improve material performance, sealing technology, and intelligent control capabilities.
With the first batch of equipment scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2026, the entire project is expected to gradually start production before 2027. At that time, this large-scale energy project will not only drive changes in the regional energy supply pattern, but may also become an important demonstration project for the application of high-end valve technology worldwide.
