Recently, the international standard ISO/NP 26798, *Industrial valves — Terminology and definitions for valve types and their components*, led by Hefei General Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd., successfully passed the formal member body vote for project approval within ISO/TC153 "Valves" and was officially approved for development.

The development of this standard began in 2022 and has taken four years. As an international standard project in the field of terminology and definitions for industrial valve types and components, its goal is to harmonize relevant terminology and definitions, optimize the product classification system, and provide standards support for the high-quality development of the industrial valve industry. The standard applies to various types of industrial valves, while bursting discs and safety valves are outside its scope.

The approval of this project benefits from the long-term accumulation of Hefei General Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd. in the field of valve standardization. As the secretariat-affiliated unit of the National Technical Committee for Valve Standardization (SAC/TC188) and the Chinese counterpart body of ISO/TC153, the institute has previously led, on behalf of China, the development of China's first international standard in the valve industry, ISO 22153, *Industrial valves — General requirements for electric actuators*, and has secured leadership in the revision of international standards such as ISO 6002, *Bolted bonnet steel gate valves*.

At the ISO/TC153 annual meeting held in Shanghai in December 2025, the Chinese delegation promoted support for this standard project from the ISO/TC153 chairman, the secretariat, and representatives of participating countries. The meeting was attended by 27 representatives from 10 countries, including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, and a total of 12 resolutions were adopted.

The approval of ISO/NP 26798 will further promote the international harmonization of industrial valve terminology and product classification, provide foundational standards support for Chinese valve products going global, and advance technical exchange and trade cooperation in the global valve industry.
